September Is a Storytelling Month

September always feels a little like a turning point. Summer is beginning to loosen its grip, the days are changing, and before long we'll be wondering where the year went.

This month, I’ve been thinking a lot about stories.

Some of that is because I’m a storyteller by trade, but storytelling has also made its way into my journaling world. September is Storytelling Month in Journaling Lovers, and we're spending the month looking at the stories tucked inside our own lives.

Not the big, dramatic stories we think are worthy of being written down. The ordinary ones.

The places we've been. The people we've loved. The recipes everybody asks us to make. The things we keep because they belonged to someone. The family characters who really ought to have their own sitcom.

Those little stories become part of the record of who we are.

And September has already reminded me that sometimes, you don't have to go looking for a story. Sometimes it's coming to stay at your house.

I thought about the year my cousin and I decided to open a lemonade stand, but all we had was Kool-aid, and not even lemonade flavored. We ended up drinking all the product, got a sugar high and fell asleep.

I love that 12-year-old story, Olivia. It made me chuckle. Thanks for sharing this! You've given me an idea for a month's worth of social media content, and a place to keep ideas that may yet find purchase in a future story.
